Ice for quinta weddings near Lisbon: Sintra, Azeitão, Bucelas

Most weddings around Lisbon happen at quintas: in the Sintra hills, in Azeitão and Palmela, among the Bucelas vineyards or out towards Mafra. They are beautiful venues, but far from everything — if the ice runs out mid-party, there's no supermarket next door. This is how we organise ice for these events.

1. Split the ice by job

• Drinks in the glass — Hoshizaki cubes in 5 kg bags: most of the volume.
• Sparkling and white wine buckets — ice with water chills bottles much faster than ice alone.
• Cocktail bar — spheres or artisan cubes for gin, whisky and signature drinks; crushed ice for caipirinhas and mojitos.
• Seafood or oyster table — crushed ice as the base of the display.

2. Ask the quinta where the ice will be kept

Some quintas have a cold room or chest freezers; others only a back kitchen. With no freezer, the ice stays in closed cool boxes in the shade, and you don't open every bag at once. For long summer parties we split the delivery in two: one before the reception and another in the early evening.

3. Agree access and timing

At quintas in the Sintra hills and the wineries of Azeitão, vans often come in by a service track. Tell us who receives the ice (the caterer or the venue manager), the set-up time and an on-site phone number. In Setúbal and Arrábida there are summer traffic restrictions — we deliver early.

4. How much to order

5. A decorative touch

At a wedding, an ice block with the couple's initials or an ice luge for shots makes the night. These pieces need at least 10 days' notice — see our ice sculptures.
